Questions people actually ask
Santorini bus FAQ
34 answers, each naming a published KTEL corridor or a fact with its source. Nothing here is inferred from the timetable; where KTEL publishes nothing, the answer says so.
Basics
Which company runs the buses on Santorini?
KTEL Santorini (KTEL Thiras). Its published contact details are phone 22860 25404 and email [email protected] [source].
Do Santorini buses have route numbers?
No. KTEL publishes nine destination-named corridors — Airport, Oia, Firostefani / Imerovigli, Kamari, Perissa, Akrotiri, Vlychada, Monolithos and Vourvoulos — all from Fira, and no numeric ids [source].
Where is the main bus station?
Fira. Every published corridor starts and ends there [source].
How many bus routes are there?
Nine corridors on the current KTEL PDF, each with a departure column from Fira and a return column from the destination [source].
Is there a bus map?
KTEL publishes a timetable, not a network map. This site's bus map page draws the nine Fira corridors from the published timetable; no stop sequence is published [source].
Reading the timetable
What does the "return" column mean?
Departures from the destination back to Fira — the PDF heads it "FROM IA", "FROM KAMARI" and so on — not arrival times [source].
Do the buses run every day?
KTEL prints a single column per direction with no weekday, Saturday or Sunday split, so no day-type is published and none is claimed here [source].
How often do the buses run?
KTEL states no frequency. The densest column is Kamari with 33 departures each way; the thinnest is Vourvoulos with one departure from Fira [source].
What do "EXP" and "ΣΧ" mean on the timetable?
KTEL prints them beside some departures — 22 marked EXP, 5 marked ΣΧ — with no legend anywhere on the sheet [source]. They are shown as printed and not interpreted.
Why do two KTEL timetables show different times?
The web routes table was updated on 18 May 2026 and the PDF on 15 September 2026; the PDF adds later departures on Oia, Kamari, Perissa, Akrotiri, the airport, Vlychada and Monolithos [source, source]. Route pages show both editions where they differ.
Is there a winter timetable?
KTEL labels the web table a summer programme and publishes no winter edition on the read date [source]. Route pages carry the current PDF only.
Are connections at Fira guaranteed?
No source publishes a guaranteed connection; the reviewed site copy has always treated every change at Fira as a fresh departure with your own margin [source].
Fares and tickets
How much is a bus ticket on Santorini?
€2.20 ordinary from Fira to Oia, Kamari, Akrotiri, Monolithos, the airport and the central villages; €2.70 to Perissa – Perivolos and to Athinios port; Vlychada is €2.80 on the fare table and 2,70 € on the PDF panel [source, source].
Is there a day pass?
No day pass or multi-ride ticket appears on the KTEL fare table [source].
Can I pay by card on the bus?
No source used by this site publishes a payment-method rule; the only published sales statement is the airport's, that tickets on the airport – Fira bus are sold by the conductor [source].
Are there discounts?
A −50% column for large families and disability and a −25% student column; a +25% night supplement applies between 00:30 and 05:00 [source].
Why does Vlychada have two prices?
KTEL's fare table (19 May 2026) prints €2.80 and its newer PDF fare panel (15 September 2026) prints 2,70 € [source, source]. Both are shown and neither is chosen.
Can I buy a ticket from Messaria or Karterados to the beaches?
Yes: KTEL publishes through fares from Messaria to Perissa, Akrotiri, Emporio, Vlychada and Athinios (€2.20 each) and from Karterados to Perissa (€2.30), Emporio (€2.20), Vlychada (€2.50), Akrotiri beach (€2.20) and Athinios (€2.20) [source].
Airport and port
Is there a bus from Santorini airport?

Is there a direct bus from the airport to Oia or the beaches?
No published corridor. Change at Fira onto the Oia, Kamari or Perissa corridor [source].
What if my flight lands after the last bus?

Is there a bus to Ancient Thera?
No fare stage; the nearest served places are Kamari and Perissa [source].

Does the Santorini Bus app work offline?
