The island hub

Fira bus station: the hub for every Santorini corridor

Fira is the anchor of the current KTEL publication — all nine corridors are listed from here, including the airport connection. KTEL also lists a Fira–Athinios Port fare, though its current PDF publishes no port departure times. Plan onward travel as separate departures; the sources publish no guaranteed connections.

Getting to Fira

Fira is the anchor of the current KTEL publication — all nine corridors are listed from here, including the airport connection. KTEL also lists a Fira–Athinios Port fare, though its current PDF publishes no port departure times. Plan onward travel as separate departures; the sources publish no guaranteed connections.

  • Airport, Oia and Kamari are each listed at a €2.20 ordinary fare from Fira.
  • Fira–Athinios Port is listed at €2.70.
  • Changing corridors means a fresh departure — allow your own margin between them.

Worth your time

What Fira does best

Whatever your plans on Santorini, they probably pass through Fira. The municipal tourism portal calls it the island’s central hub, and the KTEL table is built around it: every current corridor radiates from the town. It is also more than an interchange — the caldera path between Fira and Firostefani is one of the best free walks on the island.

The caldera path north

From Fira’s cathedral you can walk the rim through Firostefani towards Imerovigli — a stone path with the caldera falling away beside you the whole time. Go for the first hour of light if you can.

Museum of Prehistoric Thera

The frescoes and artefacts excavated at Akrotiri live here. Seeing the museum before the site (or right after) turns a field of ruins into a living town.

The old port switchbacks

Below town, 587 zig-zag steps drop to the old port where cruise tenders land. The cable car runs alongside — many walk down and ride up.

Good to know

  • Accommodation in Fira means every bus corridor on the island is a single ride away — it is the most connected base by far.
  • Evening crowds pool around the sunset-facing terraces; the east side of town stays quieter.
  • The hub area is compact but busy — arrive a few minutes early to find the right departure.
