Perissa runs into Perivolos and then Agios Georgios — several kilometres of dark sand, from full-service beach bars to stretches with nobody on them at all.

Worth your time
Perissa shares its dark volcanic sand and its mountain — Mesa Vouno — with Kamari, but the two face away from each other and feel like different islands. Perissa, with neighbouring Perivolos, is looser and younger: beach bars fade into quieter stretches, and the mountain wall behind glows red at sunset.
Perissa runs into Perivolos and then Agios Georgios — several kilometres of dark sand, from full-service beach bars to stretches with nobody on them at all.
A marked trail climbs from Perissa over the headland to ancient Thera and drops to Kamari — the adventurous way to connect the two beaches on foot. Start early and carry water.
Perissa is at its best before noon: flat sea, empty sunbeds, and the mountain shading the sand while the rest of the island queues for photos.
