Worth your time

What Vlychada does best

Vlychada feels like the far end of Santorini because it is: the southernmost published corridor ends at a beach whose pumice cliffs have been carved by wind into ribs and hollows, like a canyon turned on its side. Behind the marina, an old tomato-canning factory has become an industrial museum — peak quiet-Santorini.

The sculpted cliffs

Vlychada’s pale pumice walls are the island’s most otherworldly backdrop — photographers call it the “moon beach”. The formations continue as far as you care to walk.

Tomato Industrial Museum

In the old D. Nomikos canning factory by the marina, the museum tells the story of Santorini’s famous small tomatoes with the original machinery in place.

The marina strip

A handful of unhurried tavernas and cafés line the small fishing harbour — an easy long lunch before the ride back north.

Good to know

  • Beyond the organised section, the beach turns naturist by local custom — families usually stay near the marina end.
  • There is little shade under the cliffs; the café strip is the retreat at midday.
  • Given the published conflict, confirm the current Vlychada fare with KTEL rather than relying on either amount.
